23 May, 2011 12:44

Just a heavy thunderstorm passed out. It rained at least 5 times since morning. It’s 12:44 noon right now. I think it’s gonna rain again in few minutes! The heavy heavy clouds coming and gathering fast from north and west.

The young crow kid is too ill or dead. Don’t see any movements and no sounds coming from the nest. I think it is dead because it’s parent not going to the nest after the storm.

crow nest

It has been raining since the night before yesterday. Pre-monsoon rain. Not raining nonstop but at least ten times in a day! It’s like rain 30-40 minutes, then an hour of desistance then it start over again. According to Bangla calendar, it’s still 24 days to monsoon.

There is a crow nest on the tree next to my bedroom window. There were two crow kids. One has died (or gone!). I don’t know what happened to that. Since morning, I see only one there. The remaining one is growing fast.

a lonely kite

Woke up at 3:40am today. Didn’t know how, probably by the noise of thunders. It was raining with frequent thunders. Electricity was gone. I couldn’t sleep again, not for the thunders, cause of scattered thoughts were going on my mind. Then it came to dawning time. I left the bed and prayed. Then went to the veranda next to my bedroom. It was still raining and hazy dark outside. Looking at the sky and rain, my view got stuck on the top of minaret that is more than 70 feet high. A kite was sitting on its railing of it completely drenched with rain. I could see it clearly even in that hazy darkness because kite is big bird, prey. It wasn’t moving. Sometime a bit shaking cause of wind. I knew it won’t move from their till the rain stop. After watching it several minutes, I went to sleep again. Forgot to set up alarm, woke up late and missed the uni bus!

It was my birthday yesterday. There was no celebration. Celebrating birthday of an adult person isn’t usual here. Got a lot of birthday wishes in online, mostly in twitter, four phone calls from friends and a little heavy dinner with rice, chicken curry, beef curry at home.

Cartoons during the liberation war of Bangladesh

Yesterday I went to the “Liberation War Corner” located inside our uni central library. Actually that’s the quietest corner in the library! I go to the library when I get some free time in uni to relax and read book (mostly non-academic books :-P) My recent interest going on to the books of Syed Mujtoba Ali.

Anyway, while I was looking on the books in shelves, I found a very interesting one “Media and the Liberation War of Bangladesh: Cartoon Volume 1” by Reaz Ahmed. This first volume brought 350 cartoons together. The cartoons are obtained from magazines, newspaper cuttings and periodicals of 1971. The cartoons in the collection originally came through in Bengali and in English. The surprise comes in knowing that in only nine months of war such a huge volume of cartoons emerged to depict the struggle of the Bengalis for freedom. While reading the book, I took some shots of the cartoons by my mobile camera. Here some of them.

Bhut FM

Last night went to sleep late, because I had been listening Bhut FM. It is a Friday night two hours (12am-2am) of FM radio program about ghost! In every program, they bring up people in the studio who have real(?) ghostly experiences. In last night program they brought up a guy who regulary faces ghostly experiences in his life. They were not bloody or harmful for him. Example: a strange voice whispers in his ear that what is gonna happen in near future around him. It’s like death of a relative or something else. I don’t know he is telling truth or not. But when you listen this kind of things in complete dark, laying on your bed alone. You may get some chill feelings!

The Summer

When I woke up today at 4:45am to pray, it was raining. No wind, no thunder, straight line rain drops. Then went to sleep and woke up again at 10 am. It was glittering sunshine. Completely clear sky. Right now it’s a hot noon. Summer is already started here. According to Bangla calendar summer started on 14th April. Unlike western countries, our seasons are separated into six parts. Who lives in village, close to nature can feel and recognize them separately.

It was raining in the morning. But I was asleep. Then it became clear all over the sky. Till now afternoon, no sign of cloud in the sky. This kind of rain does nothing but increases the temperature.

Have been spending a 3 day holiday. Friday and Saturday is weekend here. And today is May Day. Didn’t go anywhere. Have been staying inside home. My mom says that I’m very unsocial. She is right. I don’t go to visit relatives that’s what she does in every holiday and weekend. But it’s not true at all. Sometimes I go to visit my maternal grandparents. Sometimes I go to visit friends. But I don’t have a lot of friends.
